Omega Ramps partnered with the City of Pomona in late 2023 to develop a new skate dot that would bring energy and accessibility to a local neighborhood. Working alongside the city’s Parks and Rec team, we explored multiple sites and concepts before landing on a grassy section of John F. Kennedy Park—an underutilized space that was ideal for conversion into a concrete skate spot.
The Parks and Rec team provided initial concept sketches, shaped by their experience and community input. Those early drawings became the starting point for our design, engineering, and 3D modeling. We designed the concrete slab with a curvilinear edge to create a natural flow alongside the existing trees, while the perimeter “slappy curb was engineered with a custom concrete mix to serve as an additional skateable feature. A local contractor partnered with the city to pour the slab, and our in-house craftsmen completed the park’s features in just two concrete pours.
Installation was quick and efficient. Using a crane to place each pre-marked component, we had the park skateable within hours. Skaters were riding it the same day.
Just a few weeks later, a packed ribbon cutting event sponsored by local skate shop Pawn Shop brought the community together in celebration. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with high energy and stoke from riders of all ages. The new skate dot has already become a vibrant and well-loved addition to the Pomona community.
